It happened as a flash | @AmakaAzie shares her #writing inspiration for Love at First Sound

Today we welcome author Amaka Azie to the blog as she shares the imspiration for her latest book, Love At First Sound.

My inspiration for Love at First Sound came from a radio program I listened to.

It happened as a flash on a cold night when I couldn't sleep. Usually, when I’m restless, I comb the internet searching for random radio stations from various countries. After a few searches, I settled on an online radio show from North America where callers called in for advice on various topics.

It was such an interesting program that I ended up awake most of the night listening to the sultry drawl of the host as he gave his advice.

That night, Emem, the main female character from Love at First Sound was born. I wanted her to be as vivacious in doling out relationship and sex advice as the show host I’d listened to.

I had planned for it to be a simple love story between an on-air personality and a younger man. I also wanted them to live in the same building. That was as far as the first thoughts I had on the plot went. But as the days went by, the story took over my head.

When I planned the outline, it had a sweet straightforward path with a happy ending. However, as life goes, things aren’t always as simple as we’d like. The characters had another plan in mind, and took me on an unexpected rollercoaster voyage, eventually leading me to the ending I’d wanted.

I'm excited about the way the story turned out, and I hope you enjoy reading about Emem and Yomi’s journey to love.
