BOOK REVIEW: Vegas Night by Unoma Nwankwor | Like Ours by Emem Bassey #Romance

This weekend I fed my African Romance craving with some wonderful books. Here are two of them.

Vegas Nights by Unoma Nwankwor (contemporary romance, sweet) is a beautiful and sweet introduction into this series. Neither celebrity billionaire Darius nor recently divorced Safiya are looking for a relationship. But when the two meet in Vegas, there is an easy convivial connection between them which ends up in a one-night stand. They wake up the next day finding they’ve had a Vegas wedding. But trying to annul it quickly fails because the media breaks the news and the impact on Darius’s investments will be catastrophic. But can the two turn a one-night stand and fake marriage into something long-term and fulfilling? I loved the simplicity of this story. Love that these two did what a lot of romance leads don't do in the black moment. They actually talked to each other. This is a comfortable, heart-warming read. Easy to recommend for sweet romance lovers.

Next up was Like Ours by Emem Bassey (contemporary romance, steamy) which is the second book in the Retired Navy Men series and is also linked to the Age is no Bother series. But this can be read as a standalone. Matt is a man on the track to redeem himself from a life of assholery. Basically, a repentant ex-douchebag. He is making amends to his twin brother who he treated abhorrently in the past. When he finds he’s falling for Jane, he goes all out to prove that he will always be there for her too. When Jane needs a pretend husband, he steps up to the plate in the hope of making it forever. But is Jane ready to give up her heart? Love the way Matt went to bat for Jane with her parents. You can't help but forgive his past actions. An engaging and steamy read.
